The Guthrie Police Department will be hosting a car show on Saturday, Nov.9 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Mineral Wells Park located at 819 South Division Street.
Registration is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a $20 entrance fee. Judging begins at noon and trophies will be awarded at 2:30 p.m. Food trucks will also be on site.
All proceeds will benefit the police department’s Christmas with Cops program, said Detective Vasquez with the Guthrie Police Department.
“This is our first year putting this on,” he said. “We’re trying to raise money for our Christmas with Cops program versus going around asking local businesses for donations because we know things are tight with the economy. We hope that we’re going to continue to do it (car show) and hopefully it’ll just get bigger and bigger.”
Vasquez said Christmas with Cops is an annual fundraiser the police department puts on.
“Christmas with Cops is something that we do every year,” he said. “What we do is people can call up here and nominate a family that is in need. We will take a list of those kids and compile them together. We schedule them to come to Walmart in December. We’ll have most of our officers there and they can come to Walmart and pick whichever officer that they want to shop with.”
Vasquez said Christmas with Cops enables the police department to interact and build relationships with local youth.
“That’s a very big key goal for us,” he said. “We really believe in doing a lot for the community. We’re also going to be hosting a Citizen of the Academy. We’re going to try and do some more things in addition to Christmas with Cops.”
